Our color levels are intentionally designed to differ from traditional swatch books. While most systems cluster dark levels and then jump into blondes, we created a smoother, more linear level system from 1 through 10 for a more predictable graduation across shades.

Allergy & Safety
Honest about what we control — and what we can't.
Latex. Our extensions are manufactured with polyurethane, never latex. But no production environment in this industry is truly 100% latex-free — particles can transfer via air or touch anywhere in a shared supply chain. We hold our facilities to the highest standard available, and we tell you the truth about its limits.
Always ask your client about latex allergies before installing. Every install, every client.
DeadBeads™ are aluminum alloy with silicone liners. The alloy is non-ferromagnetic — it won't be pulled by the magnet — but it's still metallic, and metal in a magnetic field can cause thermal burns. Remove DeadBeads™ before any MRI.
Color Notice
Hair is organic. Colored by hand. Variation is real — and ours is held tight.
We run rigorous color QC. We use textile dyes that don't fade, bleed, or shift under heat. Our process is pH-controlled, low-temp, and cuticle-preserving. Even so, two bundles dyed by hand from organic material will never be molecularly identical — that's true across our industry, and it's true with us. What's different is how tight we hold the variance.
If the color you receive feels too far from expectation, or unworkable for your install, email hello@dropdeadextensions.com to start a return. We'd rather you have the right hair than the wrong piece. (Custom color is also on the table — every Drop Dead bundle is uncoated and silicone-free thanks to ClearCanvas® technology, ready to take color cleanly out of the box.)
A note on brassiness
Drop Dead colors don't fade or bleed — that's a manufacturing claim we stand on. When a blonde client goes brassy after wear, the cause is almost always hard water in the client's home: minerals and metals oxidize and warm the tone over time. It's a water issue, not a color issue, and it's worth diagnosing before re-toning.
A note on lighter colors
Most extension hair globally is sourced from regions where the natural color is dark brown or black — Asia and India predominantly. To produce lighter shades, that hair must be processed and lifted, which means lighter colors are inherently more processed than darker ones. They're held to the same QC, but their usable lifespan can run shorter.
We don't recommend lifting Drop Dead extensions further. And never darken more than two levels — beyond that, some color products will degrade the cuticle and damage the integrity of the hair.
Tangle-Free Guarantee
Drop Dead hair is engineered to last. Most of our colors deliver 12+ months of professional-quality wear with proper care — no unnatural tangling, no premature breakage, no excessive shedding. The lightest shades (10N, 10V, 10S) are heavily processed by nature and tend to run 6–9 months. Our production team grades the hair for 2–3 years; we publish the conservative number because we'd rather give you honest expectations than impressive-sounding ones.
Your claim window: 90 days.
Ninety days isn't the lifespan of the hair — it's the window to flag a manufacturing defect. If you experience unnatural tangling, premature breakage, or excessive shedding inside 90 days of purchase, email hello@dropdeadextensions.com. We'll send a prepaid return label, inspect the hair, and if quality is the issue, issue a refund or exchange up to the amount you paid (minus tax and shipping).
What's covered
Manufacturing-related tangling, shedding, or breakage flagged within 90 days of purchase.
What isn't
Hair that's been lightened or chemically altered, unless inspection shows clear evidence of a manufacturing error.
Damage from improper care, protein-or-keratin product use, or third-party chemical processing.
Why we can guarantee tangle-free
Single-donor sourcing in the top 3% of available raw material. Cuticle-preserved, pH-controlled, low-temp processing. BalancedBlend™ 50% double-drawn density — twice the industry standard. Every bundle inspected in-house before it ships, not at the factory.
That's why our product failure rate is .01%.
Lifespan
Drop Dead extensions will last 12+ months with proper care. A complimentary care guide is included inside each pack to help your client achieve the longest life of the extensions. It is recommended to give this care guide to your client and review it with them regularly. Please consult with your client to reach out to you for any concerns. Ensure your client does not use any products containing protein or keratin, including vegan variations, as protein overload will block the cuticle from absorbing moisture and the hair will be prone to damage and breakage. The lightest colors (10N, 10V, 10S) are very processed and may result in a shorter lifespan of 6 to 9 months. Although our production team grades the hair to last for 2-3 years, we prefer to instead give more true to life expectations. Move-ups and maintenance should be performed every 6-12 weeks, depending on stylist preference.
Color Key
Drop Dead colors are named according to the language of stylists: level and tone. Numbers represent the level, while letters indicate the tone. Letters in parenthesis indicate the color style.
Numbers 1 through 10 represent the level, while the following letters represent the tone:
- N = Natural
- V= Violet
- S= Silver
- R = Red
- B = Brown
- C= Copper
- G = Gold
Letters within parenthesis represent style of color placement:
- (R) = Rooted
The "R" within parenthesis indicates “rooted”, and the subsequent number indicates the root color. All Drop Dead colors have a shallow 0.5” root color, to a beautifully seamless 4.5” melt. This allows artists the freedom to bring the root color down when customization is needed, or leave as is. All rooted colors are considered “Balayages”, the R with the subsequent number is to add clarity around what the root color of the bundle is.
- (B) = Balayage
Balayage indicates that the bundle contains a root color that is seamlessly melted into one, two, or three other color combinations. Each color combination is a 10mm wide across the weft, giving a highlight/lowlight look for dimension, sometimes also considered a piano.
*In essence, rooted and balayage essentially are always used together to describe the hair. So for example, the color option “(R) 1N - (B) 2N/3N/4N” would be interpreted as a bundle that has a root color 1 natural, into a balayage (melt) tri-color piano blend of level 2 natural, level 3 natural, and level 4 natural. Each color is 10mm in width, creating a dimensional highlight/lowlight look.
- (SS) = Seam Shade
Seam shade indicates that the seam color of the weft is different than the hair color itself. Because many artists custom color blonde hair to other colors, and the polyurethane seam of the SuperWeft does not easily absorb color, we created a Seam Shade, which means the seam is pre-colored. The number following the (SS) indicates the color of the polyurethane seam, while the number and letter after the dash indicate the color and tone of the hair.
*So for example, the color option (SS)1 - 10N would indicate that the hair bundle has a level 1 (black) polyurethane seam, and the hair is color 10N. The color option (SS)5 - 10N would indicate that the hair bundle has a level 5 (medium brown) polyurethane seam, and the hair is color 10N.
